NATO is doing everything to prevent conflict with Russia in Europe, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in interview TV channel NBC.
“We understand that we need to act so that this bloody, terrible conflict [на Украине] did not escalate into a full-scale clash between NATO and Russia in Europe,” Stoltenberg said. He also called US involvement in the conflict very dangerous.
According to Stoltenberg, NATO supports Ukraine, but cannot introduce a no-fly zone over the country – the alliance does not want to allow an escalation with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. One of the Kremlin’s demands was Kyiv’s refusal to join NATO and to place weapons that threaten Russia on the territory of Ukraine. The next day, Kyiv asked NATO to close the skies over Ukraine. This would mean a ban on crossing the airspace for military aircraft.
