Stolen 84,000 euros has been returned to the hospital foundation

The stolen 84,000 euros from the cash of the Friends of the Bravis Hospital Foundation has been refunded. The former treasurer, who had embezzled the money, transferred the amount to the foundation. The treasurer transferred the money to his private account between June 2021 and June 2023. A hospital report was filed against the man.

After the fraud came out last Thursday, the treasurer was immediately removed from his position. They would also try to recover the money.

The embezzlement of the money had a painful sequel. The brother-in-law of the treasurer, the now deceased Roosendaal alderman Kees Verstraten, donated more than 10,000 euros to the same foundation at the beginning of this year. It was the proceeds of his book, which he wrote in the months before his death.

Relieved
The Friends of the Bravis Hospital Foundation said it was somewhat relieved that the money had been repaid, chairman Van den Kieboom said in a press release: “We will now focus on restoring trust and on the foundation’s objective, which is to ensure that the patients’ stay in the Bravis hospital is as pleasant as possible.”

Measures
To prevent things from going wrong again in the future, the foundation is introducing the four-eyes principle. Someone always looks at the finances with the treasurer.
