Stoffel Vandoorne takes pole in Rome
The 30-year-old Kortrijkzaan steered his Mercedes to a win in the qualifications. He defeated the Dutchman Robin Frijns (Envision Racing) in the final.
In the qualifications, the 22 drivers are first divided into two groups of eleven. The top four of each group qualify for the direct elimination matches: quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The fastest in the final crowns himself with pole position. Earlier this season, Vandoorne also took pole in the opening moto in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
Vandoorne is in fifth place in the Formula E standings after three Grand Prix. Another ePrix will be held on Sunday in Rome.
