Stock exchange Wakosta teaches young people how to handle money wisely
And that is important, because the OCMW and the bridge figures in schools have established that young people often do not realize that they are getting into debt.
Students of the Sint-Jozefsinstituut in Ostend visited the budget fair today. They were given a fictional character with an income and then had to get to work. Myrna Sadek: “We got to choose an apartment, and we had to track gas and electricity, type in the expenses and see how much we had left. Little, and we haven’t bought anything for ourselves yet.”
It is also shocking when they see how much money is spent on food. And clothes, an internet subscription … it all costs a lot of money.
The grant is a collaboration between the CAW, the city of Ostend and several organizations of people in poverty, brought together in BudgetInZicht, or BIZ for short. About 500 young people and people living in poverty will visit the budget fair in Ostend this month.
