Director Tom McCarthy has filmed a new thriller starring Matt Damon in Stillwater. For the home cinema launch on January 20th, we are giving away three Blu-rays of the film.
The story takes place in Marseille, France. Oil worker Bill Barker travels from Stillwater, Oklahoma to visit his estranged daughter Allison. She had flown to France to study five years earlier and has not been able to return to the United States since. Because of a murder trial, she has been in prison since then. However, Bill is convinced of his daughter’s innocence. From then on he fights for their freedom and has to overcome language barriers and a complex judicial system. Over time, however, Allison’s situation becomes more and more hopeless and her father is also increasingly reaching his limits.
“Stillwater” is loosely based on the events of Amanda Knox’s court trial. The American was sentenced to 29 years in prison in Italy in 2009 for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, the sentence was later overturned.
