The accident happened Monday in a remote, hilly area near the city of Wuzhou in the Guangxi region. The plane, carrying 132 passengers and 9 crew members, was en route from Kunming in Yunnan province to Guangzhou in Guangdong province, but suddenly crashed from a height of 8,000 meters above the ground.

American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has already announced support. “Our thoughts go out to the passengers and crew of China Eastern Airlines flight MU 5735,” the company said. Technical experts are standing by to help investigate the cause of the accident, led by the Chinese civil aviation authorities.
