Kevin D. has been struggling with a persistent drug problem for some time. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison on both December 10, 2020 and March 4, 2021. On June 1, 2021, he was jailed for another six months. However, the sentences for drug offences, theft and illegal possession of arms were largely suspended on probation. This means that the Bruggeling had to follow strict conditions for several years.

The police of the Het Houtsche zone was called up on August 19 around 8.15 pm for a possibly unconscious man on the sidewalk in the Boterbloemstraat in Oostkamp. A little later Kevin D. could be found in the Korenstraat. The defendant was clearly under the influence of alcohol and admitted that he had drunk a lot of beer. In addition, he turned out to have 44.6 grams of speed in his pocket.

Following the incident in Oostkamp, ​​the Public Prosecution Service demanded the immediate withdrawal of the probation conditions. D. was also immediately transferred to prison. At the hearing, the prosecutor explained on Monday morning that the conditions had been difficult for some time. D. did not fulfill certain agreements with his justice assistant.

The defense could not oppose the revocation of the probation delay. “Client knows that he has violated his conditions”, says master Mathieu Langerock. According to the lawyer, D. did try to work on his alcohol and drug problem, but he relapsed this summer. “I was on a waiting list to be readmitted,” the defendant said.
