At the Grand Prix of the international five-star show jumping tournament in St. Gallen, Mario Stevens (Molbergen) took sixth place as the best German rider.
Victory went to a two-time Olympian from the Netherlands, Harrie Smolders on Uricas van de Kattevennen. Second place went to the 2019 European Champion, Martin Fuchs from Switzerland, on Commissar Pezi.
The 22-year-old Briton Harry Charles came in third in the saddle of Romeo. The top three pairs all stayed clear in both rounds, Smolders was the fastest with 41.43 seconds.
A quarter of the 44 starters were allowed to ride for victory in the second round. Seven riders didn’t make any mistakes in the first round, and in the decisive second round, the four fastest four-error rides from round one were added to these seven. The German champion Stevens on Starissa was one of these fast four-fault riders.
Stevens and Starissa shot clean in the second round, taking only the four penalties from the first round and finishing sixth. The winner received a bonus of around 38,000 euros, Stevens was able to book almost 8400 euros in prize money.
