D66 member Steven van Weyenberg succeeds party colleague Sigrid Kaag as outgoing Minister of Finance. Report that A.D and NOS.
Van Weyenberg had just been made State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science in the outgoing cabinet, in which he succeeded Gunay Uslu. That will now be a ministerial post. Van Weyenberg previously served in the House of Representatives for eleven years, where he was involved in Finance and Social Affairs. In the previous cabinet, Van Weyenberg already gained experience as State Secretary for Infrastructure.
At the end of December it was announced that Kaag would prematurely resign from her duties as minister to work for the United Nations. As Special Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator, she will focus on alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She permanently resigned from her position last Monday.
