It’s unbelievable: everyone who has been on television a few times now has their own biography or a ‘docuseries’ on Videoland. Steven Brunswijk is next in line. His life story is now in stores and he was supposed to promote it this afternoon in Wilfred Genee’s radio show The Friday Move, but that is cancelled.

‘completely finished’

Wilfred reveals it in the Inside today from last night. “I have a broadcast of The Friday Move tomorrow and so I heard that I would have Steven Brunswijk. He has published a biography. And the essence of the book is therefore that all people from his environment are being interviewed about the enormous success of Steven Brunswijk.”

He continues: “So I thought, out of respect I’m going to read that book. He’s coming over, then I’m going to read it too. So I was already sitting evenings in a row when I came from here, reading for half an hour. And I thought: trees have been cut down for this. What a terrible book, I thought. Anyway, I read it all.”

Steven is not coming

After that torture Wilfred got the final blow. “We get today that he can’t tomorrow. Yes. ‘Unfortunately, Steven has to cancel Wilfred Genee’s program before tomorrow afternoon. He has been very busy and would like to spend tomorrow with his family. Sincerely, Pauline Mulder, Steven’s manager.’”

Bizarre, according to Wilfred. “My editor-in-chief then asked: ‘Oh, what a pity. Wilfried has read the entire book. Really, read the whole book.’ Yes, such a waste of my time this. ‘But we will be in Eindhoven on Friday 10 March. Is that perhaps an option?’, is the question. ‘Greetings from Mireille.’”

Bad experiences

Steven doesn’t like that either. “Hello Mireille. I consulted with Steven for another date. But Steven also indicates that he thinks it is better not to sit with Wilfred and his show, given his previous experiences with him in various programs. Sorry for the inconvenience, Pauline Mulder.’”

Wilfred sarcastically: “Yes, of course I am completely upset. How is this possible? We put that man in a warm bath here.”

Steven was in the infamous candle broadcast of Today Inside last year and had to laugh at Johan Derksen’s candle anecdote. When the commotion broke out, the comedian immediately got into the car to Op1 to distance himself from it.

‘I get it!’

Johan Derksen understands that celebrities do not feel like an interview by Wilfred. “Do you know that I do understand that? You have a way of interviewing. That’s what I always call the prosecutor tone you have. You turn every interview into a competition.”

He concludes: “Wilfred, you had a TV show where you had the biggest stars at the table. I’ve seen them all walk out the door to their car with a face like ‘I’m never doing that again’.”
