England international Raheem Sterling’s move from champions Manchester City to Chelsea is perfect.
The 27-year-old striker has a contract with team manager Thomas Tuchel until 2027 and will be a competitor for national players Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, the Blues announced on Wednesday. The transfer fee should be up to 59 million euros.
Sterling is Chelsea’s first signing since the club was acquired by a consortium led by US entrepreneur Todd Boehly. He has played for City since 2015 and won the championship four times, among other things.
“I came as a 20-year-old and leave as a man,” he wrote in a letter to City fans.
Chelsea are also planning reinforcements on the defensive, as additions Kalidou Koulibaly (31/SSC Napoli) and Nathan Ake (27/Manchester City) are under discussion. They are to replace Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid) and Andreas Christensen (FC Barcelona), who have migrated.
