Stephen King made it with “Mambo No. 5” in a continuous loop his wife crazy

In the reading of horror author Stephen King, mental decay and insanity is a recurring theme. Apparently, King can do that in real life, too, like with his wife. She would have threatened him with divorce if he continued to call “Mambo No. 5 (A Little bit of…)” by Lou Bega on a loop.

After the summer hit came out in 1999, “Mambo No. 5” quickly became a worldwide success. Radio and music television stations played the Latin pop number up and down. There seemed no escape. Not so at King, as the author admitted in an interview with the American “Rolling Stone”.

Stephen King, who became famous for novels like It and The Shining, was obsessed with Lou Bega’s megahit. A dance remix based on the Mambo No. EP. 5″, King probably played loudly up and down until his wife forced him to stop. “I had the dance mix. I loved those extended versions and I played both sides [der EP]. And one of them was completely instrumental. And I kept playing the song until my wife said, ‘One more time and I’ll fucking leave you one more time,'” King said. This was probably the only way King could stop listening and his marriage could be saved.

Stephen King on his musical inspiration while writing

In the same breath, the successful author spoke about other artists who accompanied him in the writing process. Basically, Stephen King prefers Electro because he doesn’t have to concentrate on the vocals. He was particularly taken with the LCD sound system and Fatboy Slim. In the meantime, however, he has dispensed with music when writing – except when it comes to editing. Then “loud Rock’n’Roll” is his choice.

Stephen King’s new novel, Holly, is available September 20th. The remake of King’s novel “Firestarter” can also be seen in streaming. A first adaptation ran in cinemas as early as 1984, at that time starring a young Drew Barrymore.
