Thanks to the normalization of supplies, in the first 9 months of 2023 the Stellantis production in Italy it rose by more than 10 percentage points compared to the same period in 2022. Between January and September 2023, 567,525 units were produced in our country’s factories, including cars and commercial vans, compared to 515,380 in 2022. Car production marks a +10 .3%, equal to 400,675 and that relating to commercial vehicles marks an increase of +9.8% which confirms the positive trend of the first half of the year compared to a negative start to the year. Stellantis’ recovery is not yet sufficient to fill the gap with the pre-Covid production level, even if the -10% compared to 2019 is determined more by the contraction of commercial vehicles (-24.6%) than by cars, in recovery with -2.3%. The projection at the end of 2023, reported by Fim-Cisl, indicates approximately 730,000 units of which approximately 510,00 are cars.

production sites: Turin stable

As regards the production hub of Turin, the volumes recorded in the first nine months of 2023 amounted to 70,365 units, in line with 2022, where they stood at 70,340 units. Protagonist Electric Fiat 500which reached almost 63,400 units, an increase of +15% compared to 2022. The growth of the 500 bev, however, was canceled out by the loss of volumes Maserati, which went from 15,000 units in 2022 to almost 7,000 in 2023. 90% of the volumes of the Turin plant are represented by the electric 500, the remaining 10%, equal to 6,965 units, by the Maseratis. Considering the production stoppage in October, it is presumable that 500e production at the end of the year will be just over 80,000 units. In 2024 the small electric car will be launched for the North American market with further growth potential. On the Maserati line the situation is not simple. There were 86 days of production stops, involving around 1780 workers, to be added to the further 2 weeks of production stoppage in October. Production in the Turin hub is bordering on an all-time low, considering the almost 55,000 units in 2017 against an estimate of less than 8,000 units for the end of 2023. Production of the Maserati Granturismo and today it represents 38% of Maserati’s production. According to the group’s plans, the production ramp-up of the Maserati Gran Cabrio will start at the beginning of 2024. Both new Maseratis will also be powered by the new full-electric Folgore version. From 2025 we will proceed with the production launch of the new E sedan model in its full electric version. We believe it is necessary to accelerate and bring forward the timing of the production of the new E sedan in the electric version, to counteract the reductions in volumes of the two sedans of the trident house, Quattroporte and Ghibli, which will end production in 2023. It is important to understand the future Stellantis’ strategy at Mirafiori on Maserati production volumes, given the objective in the “Dare Forward 2030” plan of increasing the weight of new cars in the premium and luxury vehicle segments threefold.

Modena, Cassino, Pomigliano and Melfi

Production in the factory Modena with the 910 Mc20s produced in the third quarter it equates to a decline of 4.2%, caused by the 5-day stop due to lack of materials. Production of the MC20 should settle during 2023 at the same volumes as in 2022 with approximately 1200 units. Slight decline also at Cassinowhere 37,580 units were produced (-7.7%) in the first 9 months of 2023. The Maserati Grecale leads the way with 13,500 units, equal to approximately 36% of production, while the remainder is represented by the two Alfa Romeo, Stelvio and Giulia. The increase in volumes of the Maserati Grecale, which is growing compared to 2022, did not compensate for the decline seen on the two Biscione cars. Positive news comes from Pomigliano, where production in the 3rd quarter of 2023 reached 149,500 units, an increase of +31.5%. The growth in volumes compared to 2022, such as to even exceed pre-Covid levels, is driven by the new arrivals Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet, which reached 55,100 units, to be added to the 94,400 Fiat Panda. After a difficult 2022, the trend also reverses Melfi, with the production data for the 3rd quarter showing a slight growth of +3.4% compared to the previous year. If we compare it to 2019, the loss is instead around 59,000 cars (-29.4%). Of the 142,320 cars produced, 26% are represented by 500x, 44% are Jeep Renegade and 30% Jeep Compass.
