During the so-called Knakwors races in Beugen, five people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a scaffolding fell over on Kerkplein. The match was still underway when the accident happened.
According to a 112 correspondent, the jetty was part of a kind of walkway on Kerkplein. “A gangway was attached between the two jetties and it would have caught wind. Then one of the jetties fell over.”
The people walking on the gangway when this happened were not injured. However, the people who leaned against the crush barriers near the jetty.
According to the 112 correspondent, people would also have ended up under the scaffolding.
‘Wounded were approachable’
Four ambulances were called after the accident. Two police cars also arrived and the fire brigade from Oeffelt and Boxmeer came to Beugen.
“Two of the five injured have been taken to a hospital,” the 112 correspondent said. “They were approachable.”
