Stefan de Vrij has extended his expiring contract with Inter by two years as expected. The 31-year-old defender from Ouderkerk aan den IJssel is now with the club from Milan until mid-2025, where he has now played for five seasons.
De Vrij’s contract expired at the end of last month, but it was already clear for some time that De Vrij would stay longer at Inter. The negotiations between Inter and the De Vrij camp did not run smoothly, but it has now come to an extension. For Inter, the stay of the 31-year-old stopper is welcome news, as it recently saw strongman Milian Skriniar leave for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
De Vrij has been playing in Italy since 2014. The 59-time international left Feyenoord for Lazio in the summer of that year for seven million euros. After four years with the club from Rome, the Orange-international made a transfer-free transfer to the club from Milan, where he has played 138 games and scored eight goals to date. In the 2019-20 season, De Vrij was voted best defender of Serie A.
