Former minister Stef Blok has been appointed National Coordinator Sanctions Compliance and Enforcement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
In his new position, Blok will focus on coordinating sanctions against Russia. To improve the implementation of sanctions and their supervision. This means streamlining the search for key Russian individuals and organizations on the European sanctions list. The National Coordinator must also ensure that the authorities involved can effectively enforce the sanctions.
Streamline
An important task of the National Coordinator for Sanctions Compliance and Enforcement is coordination between the various ministries and implementing organizations involved. The National Coordinator therefore heads a government-wide steering group in which all ministries and implementing bodies involved participate.
The steering committee will meet today, chaired by the National Coordinator for Sanctions Compliance and Enforcement.
Additional officials
The various ministries and departments involved are also providing additional people who specifically focus on the implementation and enforcement of the sanctions against Russia. As of today, these officials will work together in a task group under the daily leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Stef Blok is no stranger to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was a minister there from 2018 to 2022. As a minister, Blok worked, among other things, for justice for victims of war crimes. For example, Blok held Syria liable on behalf of the Netherlands for gross human rights violations.
