The gaming platform Steam has once again released a major update. Among other things, categories and topic pages are affected.
Despite all the competition, Steam is still the most popular gaming platform in the world. The site, which belongs to developer Valve, primarily enables PC gamers to collect their games in a media library and thus use them across devices. Often you don’t get a lot from the Steam updates. However, the current one is a bit bigger and rearranges pages in the shop, among other things. You can find out which changes are now taking effect on Steam at TECHBOOK.
Steam shop gets new categories via update
While the media library on Steam is quite clear and intuitive, the same cannot always be said about the shop. This is where Steam comes in with its update and, among other things, brings a few new categories. This should also make it easier to find bargains.
There are now topic pages on Steam for this, so-called hubs. A hub is assigned to a specific category, genre or topic. According to Steam, structures were created manually for many search terms in order to be able to find games better in the future. In addition, all hubs also contain subcategories in order to be able to combine certain search terms with one another. So if you are specifically looking for a JRPG with a space theme, it should be easier to find what you are looking for.
The list view is also new in this context. These already exist if you are looking for a specific game, but the offer pages have not been particularly clear so far, especially when browsing through the categories. That should now change with the hubs and the associated lists. In addition, in the future there will be references to current events and seasonal highlights directly from the game developers in every area of the Steam shop.

Improved game suggestions for gamers
However, an update on Steam makes you particularly sensitive. According to the message from Steam, the hubs should also help to improve personalized suggestions. Steam definitely still has potential in this area.
As a rule, players are only offered the latest and most popular games. In the future, however, the evaluation of the respective gaming behavior is to be expanded and carry more weight, so that in the end suggestions are actually made based on the preferences of a player. Among other things, Steam then evaluates the gaming behavior of the friends network, the ratings given, etc.
