They are white hot and intensely sad at Zorgboerderij Grootenhout in Aarle-Rixtel. Vandals have stolen two statues there. One of the statuettes was in memory of the deceased granddaughter of the owners. It was in a homemade chapel on the split of the Laar in Aarle-Rixtel. Owner and grandma Doris van Vuuren can’t understand: “Who is doing something like that?”
Doris often pays attention to the chapel to commemorate her granddaughter Mimi. “But you shouldn’t ask too much about that, because then I will start to cry again,” she says emotionally. On Tuesday, Doris suddenly discovered that the statue had disappeared. And Wednesday afternoon she saw that vandals had taken another Maria statue from the wall of the stable. “This is horrible. We are shocked and we are really unhappy.”
They made the two -meter high chapel with their own poplar wood. The monument that stood in it was about forty centimeters in size and was in memory of their granddaughter Mimi.
The girl was born with 26 weeks early June last June. She had to stay in the Intensive Care of the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht. And it seemed that things were getting a little better. But suddenly things went wrong. “After eight weeks she got a meningitis and suddenly went very badly. She was allowed to go home so that everyone could say goodbye. At home, Mimi eventually died.”

A year later, the big loss is still brought. The fact that someone has stolen the monument of their Mimi makes Doris very angry. She doesn’t understand: “Suddenly there is one asshole Remove that statue … Then you are disturbed? Who does something like that now? “
The memorial place is at a monumental farm where people with dementia come on holiday. It is Doris’s care farm. She excludes that one of the holidaymakers has accidentally taken the statue. “Not perhaps yet. The people who stay here love Maria. They don’t. And there are always supervisors.”
The family is an avid collector of Mary statues. They are now offered new Maria statues from all corners. Yet there is no one to match this image. “It wasn’t just a Maria,” says Doris. “This was the most beautiful statue we have ever had.” She hopes that someone will soon bring the monument for Mimi back.
