Annie ter Beek is extremely proud of the monument in honor of her husband: “I think it’s great that this remains in Coevorden. He was a real Coevorden resident, in heart and soul. When he was a minister, he always shouted: first go to Coevorden call,” she laughs. Her granddaughter Famke (19) adds: “I didn’t get to know him for long, because he died when I was four. But I find politics interesting and read a lot about what he has done, so I am also very proud. You recognize his face out of thousands,” she points towards the image.
The family thinks that the former Coevorden resident would have liked the statue himself: “He was proud of ‘his’ Coevorden, so he would have been very happy with this too”, beams Annie ter Beek.
