TOULOUSE (dpa-AFX) – More than 40 countries and numerous companies have committed to the goal of a climate-neutral aviation industry. The French Council Presidency announced on Friday in Toulouse that the companies included aircraft manufacturers, energy companies and manufacturers of alternative fuels. France currently holds the rotating presidency among the EU countries.
The Toulouse Declaration includes a commitment to the EU target of not emitting more greenhouse gases than are removed from the air by the middle of the century. According to the statement, the industry should succeed in doing this, for example through improved technologies, sustainable fuels and subsidies for environmentally friendly innovations.
The European airport association ACI announced that the declaration paves the way for the next steps. According to ACI, almost 150 organisations, companies or other industry stakeholders have signed the declaration./mjm/DP/ngu
