Statement of the day | Toxic discharges onto the Wadden Sea must stop

Every year, kilos and kilos of the heavy metals mercury, cadmium, lead and arsenic end up in the Eems, Dollard and Wadden Sea via a Groningen drain pipe with industrial water. The province does not sufficiently monitor this. Respond to the statement of the day: toxic discharges into the Wadden Sea must stop.

The discharged substances are (partly) toxic and threaten the protected Wadden nature. Research shows that the discharge of these metals has increased significantly since 2010.

It also appears that the province, as supervisor, does not have sufficient manpower and specialist knowledge to monitor the discharges. Should the discharges therefore stop as quickly as possible? and if so, where should the companies go with their waste? Let us know and participate in the Statement of the Day.
