Statement of the day | There should be a total ban on fireworks from abroad

Fireworks are allowed in the Netherlands, but certain fireworks are now prohibited. However, you can still buy any type of fireworks you want just across the border, and then easily take them with you across the border. What do you think? Should that be completely banned?

Fireworks are part of the New Year, it is tradition. But the pleasure people get from it no longer outweighs the damage and serious accidents it causes every year, according to the increasing opinion among police and municipalities.

Since December 1, 2020, fireworks from the F3 category, fireworks (such as firecrackers), fireworks (such as Chinese mats), loose single shot tubes (single shots) and loose flares have been banned in the Netherlands. It is also prohibited to take these fireworks across the border. But it does happen, and easily too.

What do you think? Is it understandable that people bring prohibited fireworks from across the border, or would a total ban on fireworks from abroad be a good idea to prevent serious accidents?
