In Maastricht, a fairly innocent plan by students to provide free tampons and sanitary towels got bogged down in a discussion about ‘women’ versus ‘people who menstruate’ that completely derailed.
According to Jort Kelder, who today talks with professors from the University of Groningen about the differences between men and women, the public debate has been hijacked by wokeness † “The aftermath of MeToo and other developments are poisoning the discussion,” he says.
Is awareness about all degrees of gender and identity differences, and the sensitivities thereto, useful? Or is the woke debate going too far?
