Statement of the day | The price cap is unfair and needs to be adjusted

The price ceiling for energy, which will take effect on Sunday 1 January, seemed to be the solution to help the Dutch through the winter. It is now known that in some cases the scheme works out badly. What do you think? Is it unfair and should it still be adjusted? Let us know.

Frits Steenhuisen from Assen is dealing with one of the excesses of the price ceiling. It has a heat pump, but will soon be expensive. In order not to be a thief of his own wallet, the pump turns off and he switches back to gas. “This price ceiling is so stupid. The image of the heat pump is messed up,” he says.

The moment you receive the final bill from the energy company can also turn out unfavorably. For example, is that already in March? Because then only the colder months count, there is a good chance that you will end up above the ceiling. The result: a sky-high energy bill. Solar panels hardly help to close the shortage, because they generate much less electricity in the winter.
