Statement of the day | The government should not interfere in the sale of homes

Owner-occupied homes up to 355,000 euros may no longer be sold to everyone. Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Housing) advocates this through a bill.

Municipalities will soon be able to force homeowners to only sell their homes to people with a low or middle income.

A majority of the House of Representatives seems to support a bill from the CDA minister to achieve this. As a result, an owner-occupied home may no longer be able to be sold to everyone, which in turn has consequences for the seller.

The bill has met resistance. For example, coalition parties VVD and D66 believe that De Jonge goes much too far when it comes to allocating homes.

Should the government be involved in the sale of homes? Does the new law help home seekers with a low or middle income? What do you think? Respond to our statement of the day.
