Statement of the day | Sports clubs must always play in their own club colors at home

FC Groningen would play at home in the Euroborg on Sunday afternoon in a pink and white shirt to celebrate a collaboration with the Eurosonic Noorderslag music festival. The club was whistled back by supporters. At home, the Groningen club always plays in green and white, as club and supporters once agreed.

FC Groningen agreed with the supporters’ associations and will therefore not play in the pink-white shirt on Sunday. The club has made agreements with supporters about the identity of the club in the so-called Golden Share. Home games must be played in City and always in a white shirt with two green lanes. Pink is therefore out of the question.

Only in exceptional cases and with the approval of the supporters’ associations, the club may deviate from the agreements. That did not happen in the case of the collaboration with Eurosonic Noorderslag.

What do you think? Should a sports club always play in its own club colors at home, or is there also room for alternating uniform colors?
