Statement of the day | Social media must intervene if users are spreading fake news

Your student debt in smoke thanks to tips on TikTok? Videos with information that you can question are sometimes very popular on social media. What do you think, should companies like Meta (parent company of Facebook and Instagram) take responsibility and intervene if fake news is spread?

The story is circulating on TikTok that a student only has to say that he or she has mental problems such as ADHD or trauma. An explainer video about this has already been viewed more than 500,000 times. Meanwhile, DUO is receiving phone calls about the issue. It turns out to be a bit more complicated than claimed in the video.

To be eligible for the scheme, you must submit medical evidence and statements to DUO, which will then be checked extensively.

What do you think: should the spread of fake news be countered by social media itself? Or is it the responsibility of users to verify information? Participate and respond to the statement of the day.
