Statement of the day | Rightly so that laughing gas is on the list of prohibited substances

The possession and sale of nitrous oxide will be restricted from 1 January, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport announced on Monday.

From that date, laughing gas is on list II of the Opium Act (soft drugs) and then falls into the same category as, for example, weed, mushrooms and sleeping pills. The trade, production and possession of nitrous oxide is then prohibited.

Professional use of laughing gas for medical and technical purposes remains permitted, as is the use of laughing gas as an additive to foodstuffs.

Is the ban on nitrous oxide a good measure by the cabinet? Will such a ban lead to fewer traffic accidents and disturbances in the entertainment circuit?

And should the police check more strictly for possession of nitrous oxide from 1 January?

Respond to the statement of the day.
