Statement of the day | Rightly so that farmers want to hunt wolves themselves

Sheep farmers in Drenthe threaten to take the law into their own hands against the wolf and to hunt the animal. At a meeting on Saturday, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the wolf policy in the Netherlands – and Drenthe in particular.

,,We have been talking about it for more than a year, but have not made any progress yet”, argued Lambert Pijl from Hijken, who has about 2000 sheep. “Farmers bring weapons into their homes to hunt the wolf themselves.” The wolf has a protected status in Europe.

Is it right for farmers to go hunting for the wolf themselves, as long as there are no clear rules to keep nuisance wolves away? What do you think? Respond to our statement of the day.
