Judging by the doubts and criticism from council parties, the shared scooters in the city of Groningen may be over from next spring. This raises the question: Should all shared scooters in the city be replaced by electric bicycles?
The aim of the shared scooters was to get residents to use the car less often, but this has not been sufficiently successful. Only 18 percent left the car and the bicycle is the popular alternative.
The permits for the current providers of shared scooters will run until April 2023. “As far as we are concerned, we will replace those scooters with bicycles as much as possible,” says Leendert van der Laan (Party for the North). Electric shared bicycles have recently become available in Groningen as part of a pilot project.
What do you think? Should all shared scooters in the city be replaced by electric bicycles?
