Statement of the day | Persistent drought forces us to be conscious about water use

Where spring was still soaking wet, we now have a drought record. It has not rained for more than a month at the KNMI weather station in De Bilt.

This cannot go without consequences. That’s how Hunze and Aa’s farmers have it compelling advice to be economical with water. The water board has also taken measures to maintain the water level in canals, ditches and lakes.

Nature is also groaning under the drought. In Blijham, for example, an entrepreneur is even forced to do weekly 5000 to 10,000 liters of water over hundreds of young trees.

Meanwhile, many people continue to spray their gardens with tap water. Is that still possible? Shouldn’t we be much more aware of our water use? Respond to our statement of the day.
