Statement of the day | It’s good that police officers show what they are doing via social media

More and more police officers use social media to show how their working day is going. Do you think that is a good development? Let us know.

Community police officer Eva Dijkman shows how useful an Instagram account can be in Groningen’s Oosterpark district. The first contact with a resident regularly takes place via social media, followed by a personal appointment. Dijkman has been nominated for the Woman in the Media award because of her work on Instagram.

But things sometimes go wrong with her police colleagues. Because what do you share and when does something become privacy-sensitive? And shouldn’t officers focus on their work and go into the neighborhood the old-fashioned way?

What do you think? Is social media a useful addition for agents? Let us know and participate in the Statement of the Day.
