Statement of the day | Everyone should use their real name online

The account of Henk Bleker from Peize was blocked because he has the same name as the well-known former politician Henk Bleker. He was thought to be posing as someone else, as often happens online. Should everyone use their real name online?

Drenthe Henk Bleker likes to respond to the news online and always does so under his own name. Until his account on NU.nl suddenly turns out to be blocked on Friday. The reason? His username is ‘inappropriate’. “Maybe they think I’m posing as my second cousin.”

Bleker can laugh at his ‘inappropriate’ name, but hopes to be admitted to NUjij again soon. “In the online world we live in, you want everyone to be who they say they are, but hardly anyone dares to use their own name. I do that because I want to contribute something to a conversation.”

Does this Henk Bleker have a point and should everyone use his/her real name online?
