Statement of the day | An artist who does not make anything for an exhibition is rude

An artist was asked to exhibit in a gallery. And he made nothing. Is doing nothing also doing something? It did cause a discussion about art. Or is it rude?

Can an empty space be artful? Does it make people think about the emptiness of existence or about the ever-approaching death? Or is it just an easy way to make money doing literally nothing?

The exhibition of nothing in Groningen raises many questions and discussion. The artist stands behind his work and its message. The gallery owners feel a bit cheated. But they also have to admit: “We have never seen one of our exhibitions make the newspaper twice.”

Is it a good thing that artists occasionally throw their butt against the crib or is it simply not polite to take advantage of the people who offer you a stage? Comment below on today’s statement.
