Statement of the day | A funeral should remain a burial or cremation

Erik van Zoest (left) with son Dennis at the resomation machine. “You return to the water after your death.”

No burial or cremation, but resomation, a new funeral method, will probably be allowed from this year.

The law still needs to be changed, but funeral directors Erik and Dennis van Zoest have already purchased a machine in which the body of the deceased decomposes under pressure.

“The idea of a rebirth. You come from amniotic fluid, consist largely of water and return to the water after your death. That sounds a lot friendlier than cremation or burial.”

What do you think? Is ‘water cremation’ a good alternative to burial or cremation? Or should it remain with those two funeral methods? Respond to our Statement of the day.
