There has been an official water shortage in the Netherlands since Wednesday. Now that the drought continues, scarce water must be distributed according to legal agreements. In this way, dikes, peatlands and very vulnerable nature areas are supplied with water for as long as possible. According to the government, the drinking water supply is not endangered. Due to the so-called ‘displacement ladder’, shipping, agriculture, industry, water recreation and inland fisheries are next in line. Is that enough, or should we all do our part?
