During her visit to Ukraine, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen reiterated the pressure to accelerate the country’s accession to the EU. She is therefore heavily criticized from the House of Representatives because she would have created the expectation in Ukraine that EU membership is close at hand. “Unwise”, the VVD judges. And the PVV thinks it’s ‘nonsensical’. Is von der Leyen’s action rash or is it understandable because the country deserves support against the Russian invasion?
