State supports Schleswig-Holstein universities with an office for the new digitization university alliance

Using structures together, advancing and controlling digitization: the universities in Schleswig-Holstein founded the “University Alliance Digitization” last year and have now been rewarded for their efforts by Science Minister Karin Prien. Minister of Science Karin Prien presented Dr. Wiebke Müller-Lupp. She is the managing director of the Science Center Kiel, which is responsible for the office. “With this first step, we will activate the great potential for cooperation between our universities. Because the universities can master the enormous challenges of the digital transformation in teaching, research and university administration much better together,” emphasized the minister in Kiel. Support for the office is part of the state government’s 100-day program.

The funds are to be used to set up two jobs by the end of 2024. The designated location of the office is the existing project office of the ERDF measure “Digital Learning Campus” in the Kiel Science Center. Minister Karin Prien: “I am glad that we have managed to combine two strategic measures so precisely. Digitization also always means that we all have to shift up a gear when it comes to cooperation and networking. I am sure that our universities will be able to position themselves much better for the future through the new university alliance through more joint digital offers, processes and structures than if each university were to try it alone”.

The Vice President for Studies and Digitization, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jochen Abke, was invited to the grant notification for the TH Lübeck and has accompanied the alliance since its inception:

We are very happy that the state government has recognized the importance of the digital alliance and supports it. Through nationwide cooperation, we can bundle our know-how and our resources in matters of digitization and an office makes a significant contribution to success.
