According to initial findings, an arson attack between Bernau and Berlin led to considerable disruption to rail traffic.

The S-Bahn and train traffic was interrupted for a good two hours in the early hours of the morning, as a spokesman for the Berlin police said on Monday.

Unknown people had set fire to a cable duct in a power box on the railway line. “No one was hurt,” the spokesman said. “Police are investigating arson.” The fire was reported around 4:45 a.m.

The “Märkische Oderzeitung” (Monday) reported that several media had received identical letters of confession from a group calling itself “Revolutionary railway workers in the climate justice movement”. The letter said that incendiary devices had been laid between the railway bridges over the A10 and the Panke in order to switch the signal systems to red.

The reason given is that the oil transports from the PCK refinery in Schwedt should be stopped. The oil is used to lubricate the Russian war machine and the climate-damaging German economy. According to its own statements, the RBB has also received such a letter of confession.

According to the police spokesman, the police state security took over the investigation because of the possible political background. The letters of confession are known to the police.
