The FPS Finance can take over the management of inheritances if the heirs reject it or if they do not appear. Last year it concerned 68 legacies, which yielded 24 million euros. In 2020, the treasury earned 14.6 million euros, in 2019 it was still a record amount of 37.6 million euros.
Like any heir, the FPS Finance pays inheritance and inheritance tax. She pours it on to the regions. Last year it was 7.8 million euros.
Incidentally, the inheritance is only definitively acquired after 30 years. Within that period, legitimate heirs can still reclaim the estate. Last year, for example, ten uninherited estates were returned to surfaced heirs.
