Boniface & Openda are also at the front
With a transfer fee of 95 million euros, FC Bayern made Harry Kane the most expensive purchase in Bundesliga history in the summer. And the English top striker’s debut in the German upper house could hardly have gone better. With twelve goals and five assists, he leads the scorers list – and has also set a new record in history.
Never before has a new signing contributed a higher number of goals in their first nine Bundesliga games. With 17 scorer points, Kane clearly exceeds the previous record. This was held by Erling Haaland and Diego. After moving from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund in the winter of 2020, the Norwegian scored ten goals and three assists in the first nine games, while the Brazilian scored five goals and eight assists at Werder Bremen in 2006/07.
Bundesliga newcomers with the most goal contributions after 9 games
It was also Diego who thrilled the crowds in his first season with the Green-Whites with a spectacular long-range goal from his own half against Alemannia Aachen and became one of the most popular players in the Bundesliga. Kane achieved a similar work of art – albeit not from such a great distance – in the 8-0 win against Darmstadt 98.
“It was the first time I managed to do that. I turned to the ball in front of the goal and saw the goalkeeper out of the corner of my eye. We were leading, so I thought, why not give it a try? When the ball was in the air, I just prayed that it would go just under the crossbar. And fortunately he is,” said the Bayern professional after the game.
Among the newcomers with the most goals in the first nine Bundesliga appearances are two other professionals signed this summer: Loïs Openda from RB Leipzig (8 goals, 2 assists) and Victor Boniface (7 goals, 3 assists). Also noteworthy: Horst Hrubesch scored ten times in the first nine games for Rot-Weiß Essen in 1975/76, after he had previously been brought in from SC Westtünnen for the equivalent of 36,000 euros.
