Start-up aid approved last year for 170 young farmers

Professional farmers and horticulturists up to the age of 40 who take over an agricultural company for the first time can apply for start-up support from the Flemish government. This can go up to 70,000 euros.

For Crevits, the higher number of applications proves “that many young people are still enthusiastic and are making plans to get started in our Flemish agriculture and horticulture”. Farmers are also increasingly aware of the need to work in a sustainable way, she says.

Furthermore, last year farmers reported investments amounting to 654 million euros for government support. If all selected investments are actually implemented, 123 million euros will go to it. More than a quarter of that amount is for investments in energy savings.
