Start trial against GP suspected of murdering mother-in-law | Inland

He is said to have killed the 76-year-old woman between July 23 and 29, 2016 “by sedating her until death followed, as if a true madam was terminal,” says the Public Prosecution Service.

Justice also suspects W. of falsely preparing the medical certificate of her death. The doctor denies.

In November 2015, the victim was taken from France by her daughter to the Martha Flora nursing home, a private clinic in Maastricht for elderly people with dementia. The daughter’s boyfriend became her attending physician. The woman passed away on July 29, 2016.

In March 2017, the Public Prosecution Service launched a criminal investigation after a report to the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate about abuses at Martha Flora. The doctor was arrested in February 2018. The court released him under conditions in May 2018, pending his trial.

In this case, a Maastricht civil-law notary was removed from office in February 2021 for his role in the affair. The notary, a good acquaintance of the GP and his partner, drew up a will from the mother-in-law, but did not examine whether she was still sufficiently competent. The woman’s signature made her daughter’s sole heir.

The court begins the trial by hearing witnesses and experts. Six days have been set aside for this. In May and June, the case will continue with a significant series of hearing days.
