The Golden State Warriors started the new NBA season with a win against the Los Angeles Lakers. Last year’s finalist Boston Celtics also celebrated a successful start against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Champion Golden State won the duel between the two superstars on Tuesday evening (10/18/2022, local time) with 123:109. Warriors playmaker Curry was also the top scorer of the game with 33 points.
On the other hand, LeBron James also played strongly. The Lakers leader had 31 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists – just missing the first “triple-double” of the season in the opening game.
Curry Appeals in Brittney Griner Case
Curry used the pre-game championship ceremony to commemorate Brittney Griner, who was imprisoned in Russia. “Today is Brittney Griner’s birthday, she is 32 years old. Let’s keep her name known and praying, she has been illegally imprisoned in Russia for 243 days and we hope she comes home soon and everyone contributes“, said Curry before the first game.
Celtics prevail against 76ers
The other finalist from the previous season also started the new season with a win. The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 126:117 in their own hall.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum both had 35 points, while Tatum also had 12 rebounds and four assists. For the 76ers, James Harden was also the most successful thrower with 35 points.
