After weeks of silence, the management and works council of the Zalando logistics center in Erfurt, which is threatened with closure, have started discussions for the first time. The works council confirmed the start of negotiations involving a reconciliation of interests, a social plan and a list of questions from the employee representatives. A company spokesman also mentioned May 29th as the first meeting date. The long-hardened fronts were broken up a week ago by a settlement. Zalando currently has around 2,000 jobs.

The settlement ended an ongoing legal procedure concerning the appointment of a conciliation board. The conciliation board was actually supposed to be heard on June 3rd at the State Labor Court in Erfurt.

Negotiations without a conciliation body

According to the works council and company spokesman, the settlement stipulates that negotiations will initially take place outside of an arbitration board. The works council had requested this. If no agreement is reached by June 20th, the conciliation board will be set up on June 23rd. Up to three hearings per week are planned for the next few weeks, it was said.

The Dax -Group wants to close the logistics center with which it grew up as an online fashion retailer in September. The conflict has been simmering since the beginning of the year. According to the works council, around 2,000 of the around 2,700 employees at the time are currently still in the company. Several hundred employees’ fixed-term contracts have now expired.
