Start of new bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Menen
Monday will be the start of the construction of a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Menen. “The new bicycle and pedestrian bridge will connect the towpaths between the Barak Park and the Noordkaai in Menen”, says Lydia Peeters, Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works. “It will also be part of the renovated bicycle highway between Komen and Deinze.”
“Incentive to cycle more”
The works will take about two years. They only really become visible in the autumn, when sheet piles and screw piles are installed. In 2023, bank works and preparatory works will be carried out, in 2024 the bridge components and the central bridge span will be installed.
The nuisance will be limited during the works. “The new bridge will be an incentive to cycle more, both for relaxation and to work or school,” adds Minister Peeters. The estimated total project size is EUR 12.2 million.
