Friday at the age of 96 deceased Tony Bennett is honored and remembered by numerous stars of the music and entertainment world. The acclaimed American singer is praised by stars such as Elton John, Bette Midler and Martin Scorsese.

“Without a doubt the most stylish singer, man and artist you will ever see. He is irreplaceable. I loved him and adored him. Condolences to Susan, Danny and the family,” writes Elton John on Instagram. The American Joe Bonamassa cites a performance by Bennett at North Sea Jazz on Twitter. ,,I just said that Tony Bennett gave the best performance I’ve ever experienced at North Sea Jazz in 2012. It was like dropping a needle on a record. He was the last of the greatest generation of singers and musicians,” he shares.

Guitarist Steven van Zandt calls Bennett ‘one of the best’. “The last of the legends. A man whose heart was as big as his voice. The world’s foremost practitioner of the ‘Art Of Excellence’”, says Van Zandt. Kings of Leon’s Nathan Followill finds Bennett’s voice “truly one of the purest” he’s ever heard. Boy George calls Bennett’s passing “the loss of a legend.” Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall states that ‘the last of the great jazz crooners has left’.

The Muppets

The Muppets’ Twitter account also reflects on the death of the singer, who was regularly seen in the series. “We have so many magical, musical memories of the great Tony Bennett. He was one of our favorite guests on Muppets Tonight, made a cameo appearance in Muppets Most Wanted, and often performed with Kermit and Miss Piggy. Tony was an unforgettable talent that the world has been so lucky to have,” write the makers of the puppet series.

Director Martin Scorsese describes the jazz crooner as “a consummate performer.” “You only have to listen to one of his hundreds of recordings to recognize that,” the filmmaker said in a statement. “His voice felt as familiar and close as the voices of our loved ones. I know this was true for millions of people around the world.” Actress Bette Midler will also miss him, she writes on Twitter. “I am grateful to have lived during his musical reign, to hear and cherish the music he made and the man himself.”
