The Starbucks coffee chain has burned to the ground on Radio 538, John de Mol’s hit channel. According to the people who make the morning show there, it is ‘really an overrated coffee brand’.
The people who work at Talpa Radio suffer terribly from the coffee machine, which is almost always broken. Sidekick Niels van Baarlen regularly complains about this on Radio 538. “The coffee machine is broken again. We have one large coffee machine in the building from which 1,200 people make cappuccino.”
“Buy Starbucks!”
huh? One coffee machine in that whole building? Colleague Rick Romijn: “Well, we do have more machines.”
Niels: “But this is the best cappuccino machine.”
Rick: “That device is broken again, so we are once again at the ditch water here.”
And now? Rick: “I was thinking… Will John de Mol listen? Is not it? He usually listens from an hour or six. I think I have the perfect solution: he should just buy Starbucks.”
Overrated coffee brand
Not a good idea, says Niels. “So I really think Starbucks is an overrated coffee brand.”
Tim Klijn, the main man of the team: “Yes.”
Rick: “Yes, but it always does.”
Tim: “Well, I also often find myself drinking Starbucks coffee and that is really the holy grail according to some, but…”
Niels: “There is so much stuff in it, you taste everything except coffee. If you just try to order a bowl of black at Starbucks, they will really look at you.”
Wrong adress
Tim suffers from that too. “Yes, from: are you at the wrong address here?”
Rick: “But you know what’s also weird? If you say, “My name is Tim,” they’ll write “Sim.” You’re not a Mongolian, are you?”
Niels: “That is their signature. That’s the joke.”
Rick: “Then they hope that you take a picture of it and put it on Instagram.”
Pils van Baarlen
Niels thinks that is a smart marketing trick. “Isn’t that smart?”
Rick: “And Niels will of course be called Pils or something.”
Niels laughs: “If they do that too, that seems like a great plan. haha!”
