“Star Wars” series about Obi-Wan Kenobi: release date set

Star Wars spin-off Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 25, 2022. Ewan McGregor will once again play the Jedi Master. But another well-known face of the “Star Wars” prequel returns: Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, or Darth Vader.

McGregor last portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2005 in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The new series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” continues the storyline from back then, but ten years have now passed. In addition, the series should appeal to both old and new “Star Wars” fans and thus build a bridge between nostalgia and the present.

Even if there is no detailed information about the plot yet, one thing is certain: Christensen will once again slip into the role of Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader and once again meet his former master Obi-Wan Kenobi. “I don’t think it’s a secret that Hayden Christensen is returning and that we’ve done scenes together as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker,” McGregor said in an interview with “forbes“. “It was fantastic to work with him again.”

“I think we did a good job with the new story”

The actor adds: “Otherwise I won’t reveal anything about the plot. Just that I think ‘Star Wars’ fans will be delighted. I always felt like there was an untold story between Episode III, when I last played Obi-Wan, and Episode IV, where Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan. […] I think we did a good job with the new story.”

Meanwhile, Disney+ released a first poster for the new series via Instagram:

The director of two films in the latest “Star Wars” trilogy, JJ Abrams, is also working on a new TV show about Star Wars. The project follows the events of the recent Skywalker saga.
