VfB Stuttgart is looking for a new sports director. Now the group of candidates should become more specific. According to a report, the club asked an old friend.
The position of sports director at VfB Stuttgart is still vacant. At the end of June, the supervisory board of VfB Stuttgart decided to appoint a new sports director this year.
After the separation from ex-sports director Sven Mislintat at the end of last year, Fabian Wohlgemuth took over his position, but the position one floor above remains vacant. The Bundesliga club has been keeping its eyes open for a suitable man for months.
As the TV station “Sky” reports, the Swabians have inquired and asked Fredi Bobic, among others. According to the report, engagement is “unlikely.”
The former VfB striker actually has other career plans. The discussions were not “concrete”.
VfB: Other names are circulating
Accordingly, the club’s supervisory board is currently drawing up a list of top candidates. According to Sky, other names include ex-VfB manager Horst Heldt and Joti Chatzialexiou (head of national teams at the DFB). Like Bobic, they are considered an unlikely solution.
Heldt was recently linked to the position of sports director at Schalke 04. A promotion for sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth is also not ruled out.
Bobic played in the country from 1994 to 1999, was top scorer in 1995/96 (17 goals) and is considered an important part of the “magic triangle” as a club icon.
His time as VfB manager was less successful. From 2010 to 2014 he led the team as sports director and later as sports director. In 2014, he was expelled shortly before the game at Borussia Dortmund. He later worked at Eintracht Frankfurt and most recently at Hertha BSC. Bobic’s time in Berlin also ended with a bang and early expulsion.
